NERO D'AVOLA 2016

Appearance: Brilliant cherry – red colour; bright and attractive

Nose: Savoury bouquet, perfumed with dark maraschino cherry, quince paste, very subtle smoky oak complexity

Palate: Elegant medium bodied, with a good line of acidity and a clean finish. Lingering ripe cherry flavour balanced by distinct but gentle tannins

About the wine: The Sicilian grape variety, Nero d'Avola is well suited to the soil type and microclimate of the McLaren Flat sub-region. The grapes cope well with the bursts of summer heat with their rich, ripe fruit flavours developing during the later part of the season. The vines grow vigorously requiring careful management to maintain the canopy.

Winemaker Mike Farmilo, has created a fruit driven wine with a bright and lively palate. After crushing and fermentation the wine is matured in third use French oak for six months to soften the tannins. The typical Nero d'Avola characteristic of maraschino cherry is highlighted and balanced with a savoury clean long finish

James Halliday Review 90 SILVER:  "No arguments over the drinkability factor. This is succulent and berried with mint and earth notes in minor measure. It smells and tastes good in a light, no-nonsense manner." Tasted by Campbell Mattinson
