HUGH HAMILTON RASCAL SHIRAZ 2020/2021
Appearance: Dark cherry, purple hues
Nose: Slurpy, plush, and lush – but assertive too. Packed with brambly dark fruit; blueberry, mulberry and black berry. Black tea leaves and vanilla. Violets and irises
Palate: Fleshy, sweet and meaty like a slab of steak. Chewy texture, rolling with fruit and oak, grounded with the subtle earthiness of fresh turned soil. Big and round in the middle with a satisfyingly long finish
Food Pairing: Marbled wagyu, roast beetroot, rocket, and feta salad
About the wine: The Rascal Shiraz is just that – a bold, brash interpretation of McLaren Vale’s hero variety with a dense bouquet of black cherries, dark plums and mulberries. A nose of fresh liquorice and warm earth. Black-fruits fill the mouth with some spicy oak adding complexity while vigorous tannins wagging the wine’s long satisfying ‘tail. It’s the perfect wine to pair with dukkah crusted lamb – those hearty tannins quickly mopping up the lamb’s hit of protein and flavourful fat.
