Black Blood I comes from the Cellar Block Vineyard — the home of the Black Sheep. It’s a site of black, cracking clay that delivers intense, structure-driven, textural wines year after year.
Cellar Block is often slow to shine; the trade-off for its longevity is a more defined texture in youth that needs time to become supple. Give this one patience and it will absolutely reward it.
The aromatics are dark and brooding, with ribbons of red fruit escaping the molasses-black core. Wet earth and split stone sit alongside stealthy fruit, with florals spiking through the darkness — apple skin, rhubarb, coal smoke — all wrapped up in a wine that hums and chugs like a steam engine. Solid, powerful, and built for the cellar.
Drink: 6–10 years
Food match: a choice cut of aged beef, cooked simply but well — charred to taste
