Sangiovese can be a bit of a handful — it refuses to be pushed into a style it doesn’t want to be. Hugh Hamilton have embraced that, and the result is The Mongrel: a Sangiovese that feels like it’s finally living its best life.

Somewhere between “basket-on-a-tablecloth” nostalgia and the modern rediscovery of the grape, this is a wine that’s light on its feet but still assertive — bright, savoury, and full of personality. Hugh calls it a “complex simple pleasure,” and that really nails it.

Perfect for Italian food (obviously), but also brilliant with bolder flavours when you want a red that stays fresh and energetic.
